Tips for Moving with a Pet
When you move to a new residence, you are not only moving your belongings, you are moving your beloved pets. This can create quite a conundrum for those that may not have much experience when it comes to transporting a pet. Well, if you are worried then you really need not be. It is no where near as tough as some assume to move a pet to a new home. For those curious as to how to make the trip as smooth as possible, here are a few tips:
Always be sure to secure the pet in the vehicle. This means dogs need to be on a lease and smaller animals such need to be in carry cages. This will greatly maintain their safety and their security while in transit. Just holding onto the pet is not a wise move since this can lead to various problematic and unsafe situations. Why have such problems when they can be avoided.
Make a few small test drives with the pet in the car. Some pets will be exceedingly nervous at the shock involved with being driven around in a car. Rather than introduced the animal to a two hour trip in a car, it would be a much better plan to take the pet around in a series of ten or fifteen minute drives. This will enhance the potential for the pet to becoming used to transportation and not being nervous with longer trips.
Always select a transport device that is the right size. Too large of a cage can prove to be a little bulky and this will take space up in the transportation vehicle. Too small of a container can lead to the pet having a far too uncomfortable ride. Picking the right transport device is key to making the trip as smooth as possible.
It also does not hurt to know your limitations and hire a professional pet transport service. Yes, such professionals do exist and they know exactly what is needed to move a pet from point A to point B with little or no problem or hassle. Are such services expensive? They are generally quite reasonable and anyone seriously interested in their services should not feel they will need to spend outrageous amounts of money to procure them.
Move your pet last. Let it enjoy the comforts of its old home for as long as possible and transport it in an empty vehicle that is not loaded with tons of other belongings.
