Conrad, Iowa – Black Dirt Capital of the World

August 15th, 2010

Conrad is a small city of approximately 1000 residents located in central Iowa and is known as the Black Dirt Capital of the World. This community is proud of its people, schools, churches, business district, parks, swimming pool, golf course, nursing home, assisted living facility, library and all around attractiveness. The new two million dollar library was built in 2008 and has had record breaking activity since it opened. There are very few run down buildings or “slums” in our city. We have a new high school and elementary school located in Conrad, with the junior high in a small town nearby. One of the organizations that the city belongs to is Main Street Iowa, and this group is responsible for the recruiting of new businesses and promoting Conrad as a place to live, work, and play. Last year the city won a $10,000 state award for their progressive attitude which was sponsored by a bank from Des Moines, Iowa. All in all, you would have a difficult time finding a better small city to live in and raise a family in. We invite everyone to come visit and see for themselves.
