BLT

Summer time is the only time I can have my absolute favorite sandwich, the “BLT,” aka bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. Right now in my backyard is a veritable jungle of tomato plants, close to six feet tall, and producing their miraculous array of produce. We have yellow tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and a couple of varieties of red tomatoes. They are ripening now, and not only do we have enough to share with neighbors and friends, but we can have the amazing BLT with garden-fresh tomatoes. Store-bought tomatoes are flavorless. A BLT made with them does not have the texture or the flavor of a home-grown tomato in the middle of summer. So, for a couple of months in the summer, I have a BLT for dinner just about every day. Then comes the long fall, winter, and spring of tomato-less life until we plant and then enjoy our tomatoes again.
